What's been happening lately in my Posh closet/

Another month has gone by and I've not posted!  It's not that I've lost interest but that life has been happening.

So, what's going on with my closet?

First, I appreciate my friends.  Several of them have given me more items to sell in my closet.  Incredible items and some I chose not to sell but keep for myself.  They, of course, were ok with that.

One gave me a brand new Dooney and Bourke purse.  It still has the tag, tissue, and even the bag it came in!  It is listed for $150.  Originally, $198!  https://poshmark.com/listing/Dooney-Bourke-Red-Pebble-Camera-Crossbody-Bag-6a56ad1b955383ab427d7980

Another gave me two Orca Coatings mugs that are still in the foam packaging.  I need to get these listed.  I'm thinking one for $25 or both for $40.  I did some research and the website for the company does not list prices.  Used ones were listed on Etsy for $12 to $20 or more.  So, I'll start here and be willing to negotiate.
In fact, I have so much from my friends that I'm not even shopping my usual thrift shops/  I do not need any more.  I need to clear some out.

So, how about a great deal just for you who read this post?  Go to my closet My Posh Closet  create a bundle with all your likes, comment "I read your blog", and I will send you an incredible offer!

Or, would you like to make money on Poshmark too?

Learning something new everyday!  Some "stuff" I just noticed on Poshmark.

I said before that I love the latest update from Poshmark.  It is much, much better.  I love how it looks and the additions they made like the easier to use tools and better-looking layout.

Today, I explored a little more deeply into things.  I love that we can now see data on each and every item in our closet.  This data can help me see what's getting shown, seen, clicked, and more.

This is a gorgeous dress at what, I believe, is a very good price.

I bought it at a Teen Challenge thrift shop.  I would not have even considered it because it cost me 15 or 20 dollars.  But, when your adorable grandson picks it out and feels very strongly that it will sell, what else is there to do but get it. And, I did.  My research showed its original price was $500. I listed it at $99 eventually.

It has had 201 Impressions which means it has appeared in feeds and ads that many times.  It has been listed longer than 89 days.  I edited it at least once by creating a copy, deleting the original and updating it.  That resets the days listed.

It has only 1 like which is disappointing.  Only 25 clicks?  That means only 25 lookers actually clicked on it to find out more about it.  I've made an offer on it 5 times.  Guess that one liker is the recipient of all of those.

What does all this tell me?  I honestly do not know except ask myself "What more do I need to do?"

I already share at least 3 times a day.  I respond to likes as quickly as I can.  I send a message to my shoppers only once a month because people do get tired of all the spam coming their way. I share on Pinterest every time I share to followers.  I put ads on Instagram.  And, I do this blog.

I believe my listings are presentable especially the ones with the virtual models I make with Photoroom. I also believe my descriptions are thorough and well-written. I am inconsistent with adding measurements.

However, I've sold 35 items and earned over $300 this month.  That's definitely an uptick compared to pre-changes to the app.

Overall, I am happy with Poshmark and will continue to sell.  I cannot spend all day sharing but I could do more than 3 times a day.  I need to update listing older than 60 days more often too.

 C'mon Salvation Army! Really?

On Wednesdays, I like to go to both Salvation Army and Goodwill in search of great items for resell in my closet.  Lately, I've been really disappointed in both but very disappointed in Salvation Army.

I get that both organizations rely on sales to support the good work they do.  However, must you put a price tag on these items that is absolutely ridiculous. Take a look!

Isn't this interesting?  As you can see, Marshall's had priced it at $15.  The tag behind it is the Salvation Army tag.  Yep, that's $30!  Why would they price it at twice what Marshall's had?

Crazy, huh?
This is not a one time thing.  I've seen it many times. I try to find items that cost me no more than $4 so I have a better chance of making a little money on it when I sell it.  These thrift stores are asking 12, 24, even as high as 50 dollars for items that have tags or are a good name brand but, seriously, why?  People are not buying the items marked so high.  I'd spend more if they had their .99 cent sale that they no longer do.

So, I have updated my philosophy.  I will look for items with original tags that will not cost me ore than $4 to buy!

I live in an area that has two Goodwills and one Salvation Army.  In nearby towns, there is another Salvation Army and three Goodwills.  However, the selection is limited and none run super sales nor do they have bins to search through.

My best place has been the SPCA thrift store but it has closed.  I do ok at Plato's C:oset when they run their clearance sales but that only happens three or four times a year.

I do ok at Label Shopper when they have their 50% off items marked 3,4, or 5 dollars.

I may find more if I am willing to go out of town or to another state but with gas prices going up that has to be put on hold.

I still have fun looking and shopping because I have found amazing items and hope to find more.  That adventuresome feeling keeps me going.

And, I do make sales.  I just held a clearance sale that will end on Saturday, March 21st at Midnight.

Get your deal before the sale ends!

I am a bit frustrated with Thrift shops marking items at ridiculous prices!

I absolutely love sourcing for my closet.  My goal is to try and purchase items for less than $5.  Hopefully, closer to $3 or less even! I need that so I can make some money on the items.  If my price point is $20, Poshmark takes $4 and if I give $4.99 shipping, there goes another $1.50.  I'd make $14.40. Not bad.  But, most things sell for a lot less than $20.  In fact, to give you an idea of some typical sales, here's what's happened recently:

A top sold for $8 and I made 5.50.  Subtract $3 as an average of what I spent on it.  And, the net is only $2.50.

A pair of capris sold for $12 and I received $7.55 from Posh.  Subtract $3 and I made $4.55.

A bundle of 2 shirts sold for $19 and my earnings were $13.70.  Subtract $6 for what the two items cost me, and my net is $7.70.

Occasionally, I do make a big sale but the majority result in getting my money back for what I spent on them and a little income.

So, what Salvation Army and Goodwill think they are designer outlets, I get frustrated.

Yesterday, I went to my local Salvation Army.  On Wednesdays, four colors (they color code the tags) are 50% off.  Just about every time I found a NWT item of a decent brand, they had tagged it for $24.99!  Even at 50% off, I could not make money on that item.  I even found one item that had a original store tag that had $22.99 as the retail price and Salvation Army tagged it at $24.99!  Are you.......kidding me?

Moreover, many of these items they had priced out of my preferred range (6.99 or less) were not even great brands.  They had overpriced Shein, Forever 21, Rue 21, and Fashion Nova.

They already have tons of Zara that they sell at half price and most of it is junk because they are all flawed with things like broken zippers and tears!

Goodwill does this to some extent too.  I guess it is ok for people looking for a bargain and are buying for themselves but for resellers, it's a bummer.

Thank goodness I still have Plato's Closet and my local SPCA shop here in my hometown and the Curiosity Shop and Teen Challenge in my real hometown.  I've tried God's Thrift before but I remember their prices for secondhand to be outrageous with no deals.

I have so much inventory right now that I do not need anything else but I still love getting great deals with the hope of making more than a few dollars on them.

Conclusion:  Remember my reason for doing this is to keep me busy and focused on something meaningful so I have a distraction from all my worries.

 A recent mix-up - two different reactions!

Recently, I made a big mistake and somehow mixed up two orders.  One reaction was rather unpleasant (probably my perception that hurt my feelings) and one was kind and welcomed.  No one was mean or nasty, thank goodness.

It's just that I would like buyers to remember that some of is are just normal folks trying to enjoy a side hobby.  So, when something goes wrong, it is so nice to have an understanding person who says, "No worries" The other reaction made me feel very bad. I did not intentionally make a mistake and did not deserve a hit on my record under "item not as described".

You see, I did describe the items well.  The best selection when this happens is received wrong item.

It's all over now though.  The understanding buyer bought the item again and it is on the way to her along with another item included for free as an apology for my mistake.  She's happy and so am I.

I made a generous offer to the other buyer and left a note explaining it (jacket and skirt for what was originally charged for the jacket).  These items together retailed for about $100!  But, I've no response yet and others have liked the items, unfortunately at the low price originally offered for the jacket.  If they sell, they sell.

I have to give kudos to Poshmark support.  They are very helpful, non-accusatory, and generous in resolving the issues.

Thank you for checking out my blog!

Stay calm and postage on!  What's the buzz about shipping and postage with Poshmark?

I have found that when something changes and everyone is up in arms complaining that it is best to take a step back and wait and see.

Poshmark sent out a notice that they were changing the shipping from 8.27 to 6.49.  AND, that we could no longer use Priority packaging.

Posh negotiated a deal with USPS so they could lower shipping costs for our customers.  It meant giving up priority shipping and switching to Ground Advantage.

The worst part is we can no longer use our priority packaging materials which have been totally free and would have to use our own materials.  Personally, I do not have mailers and boxes lying around and I like not having to pay for boxes and such. I sis not want more cutting into my slim profits!

Just a side note:  Priority was taking longer than 1-3 days anyway and a few times packages ended up in Puerto Rico before getting back on track.  So, what dif does it make to switch to GA?

Don't panic.  Posh also negotiated with USPS to provide Posh sellers with GA packaging materials.

I called the number provided.  It didn't work and apparently USPS customer service knew nothing about it.

That was day one- give up and wait.

Day two- More info from Posh.  Now, there is an email or a phone number to contact to order our free supplies.  Hopefully, this will work better.

If you are selling on Poshmark, you will see a notice in the app or check the Poshmark blog and you should find all the info you need.  Apparently, when I was writing this, the Poshmark site could not be reached, guess they are experiencing a very high volume right now.

Bottom line_  Like everything else, things eventually work out.  Just give it time.

So, I'm off to do my Wednesday thing.  Salvation Army and Goodwill 1 and 2 if my energy holds up. Sadly, my arthritis is acting up today.  My medication had to be stopped because of dealing with another health issue.  I also want to go to Dollar Tree which isn't a dollar anymore.

I had hoped to work with a friend on joining Poshmark but we need the sunshine to take outside pictures and it is a gray day.  Definitely the weather contributes to my arthritis acting up.

I hope you all have a great day.  If you are a seller and cannot find what you need, just contact support.  They respond in a timely fashion and have helped me in every situation I have brought to them for help.

BTW, if you visit my closet ( My closet ), create a bundle and comment "I read your blog", I will give you a great deal on all your likes.

Labor Day Weekend Sale!  Resellers and buyers alike take advantage!

That's right!  Here's what to do:

1.  Come to my closet   https://poshmark.com/closet/leprof_74

2.  Click like for all items you'd love to have (minimum 2 items)

3.  Bundle your likes

4.  Comment on the bundle "Send me an offer I can't refuse!"

5.  Accept the offer I send!

It will make you smile.  Imagine the possibilities!  Resellers can buy from me and then sell in their closet for a profit. Ok with me for this weekend anyway.

Example:  You like these 2 dresses.  They retail for $129 and $139 respectfully.  My price is $35 and $75. You bundle them.  I send an offer for up to 80% off!  Honestly, I would most likely offer $55 which is 50% off! They are excellent pieces and I am losing money if I offer any less.

Or, you like, say, five tops that I listed at $15 each.  Total $75.  I would likely offer $15!  80% off my price!

It all depends on the items you select.  I can guarantee a fair offer!

Why do this?  Why practically give it away?

First, it is only for one weekend.
Second, I need to move out some inventory. I converted my son's room to my Poshmark closet.  In addition to filling up the large and small closets in his room, I have two full racks of clothes, 2 shoes and bags organizers, 6 storage boxes, and a few bags and boxes full of inventory.  Then, my bedroom closet is half full of gowns and maxi dresses.  Finally, my little pink room closet is full of pants, shorts, and skirts.

A little side story-  My pink room was my daughter's room.  When she went to college and we realized she was not coming back home, she helped me redo it as my reading room/music room.  I insisted it be painted pink.  We have a Monet wallpaper trim around the top edge.  Then, 4 bookshelves and a desk. It is decorated in everything French from Art prints to many, many Eiffel Towers and many mementos from all my years teaching.  I love it in there.  The latest addition is what I call a boudoir lamp.  It's pink with a boa trim!  Here's a peek.

Have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend.  And, come browse my closet.

Conclusions I have come to recently.... Working my Poshmark closet!

A few months ago, I realized how much I miss my job with Fuel Ed/Stride.  I was an online French teacher/Academic Integrity Coach.  I loved it.  Most of the work was easy peasy.  Teaching French was mainly following student progress, grading, and communicate regularly.

The AI Coach was a little bit more challenging but a lot of fun for me.  If a teacher in any subject area suspected cheating, the assignment came to me.  Usually, the teacher provided some evidence for what kind of cheating occurred: copied another student, copied Google, obviously had help from a parent, used Google translate....  Unfortunately, it is way too easy for them these days to cheat. I did the research to see if they copied and provided the evidence for a teacher/parent /student conference.  I put together a presentation on slide show that included an intro, why we are meeting, review of terms and policies, interviewing the student (usually the most revealing part), teacher review with the student of the evidence, student allowed to explain or provide additional info, plan of action steps to take, promise to contact teacher or counselor for help, and a pleasant (?) goodbye.  Then, I would follow up with the student and parents in a few days to make sure they were taking the recommendations and actions necessary to improve.

Another unfortunate event- the onset of Artificial Intelligence and CHATgpt.  That marked the beginning of the end.  I could no longer prove cheating other than asking the kid point blank and accusation does not go over well.

The position was created for me and the powers that be above our school felt my coach position was no longer needed.  I could've continued part-time but that would likely end too since I was not the Senior French teacher.  So, I took the severance package.  It wasn'y much but it was something.

So, there I was with no job and no extra income except Poshmark.  I felt I had to up my game in getting stuff sold.  So, I put pressure on myself to do a live show.  That was a disaster.  I tried more silent shows, not much came from them.

Finally, I concluded that doing the shows may not be my best bet.  I've sold a few items every week but not to the level of providing a real income!  I now believe the best I can do is share, follow, and list.  That seems to be what helps the most.  I can continue to sometimes advertise on Instagram and post on Pinterest within their guidelines.

I cannot stress enough that I find and list excellent items.  I do not list anything I would not want for myself or give as a gift to a friend.

I know I have recruited people either through my closet or this blog but I've not received a bonus for that yet.  They have to sell something or buy something, I think, not sure, before I receive the bonus.

I do need more income.  Grandsons need my help. Their dad, my son, does too.  I can pay my bills, no problem.  I'd like to do more with and for them.

Please shop secondhand and save the environment.  In the long run, we are helping each other in may ways.

Definitely need to clean out some inventory!  Silent show efforts do not get the results I would like.

I do not want to do another live show!  It was a disaster.  I simply do not have the room nor the multi task agility/ability to keep up with showing an item, talking about it, reading the chat, answering questions, moving from one item to the next..... Plus, my space is too small to have a really good show.  I do not have the professional set up needed.

I have watched a few live shows and find most of them annoying.  Some have lights, music, and promises of giveaways that are not worth sticking around.  Free shipping is NOT a giveaway!

However, getting people to pay attention to my closet is not easy.  I make ads, stories, share on Instagram and Pinterest, send a comment about sales to all those who have shopped my closet, and continue to do the usual daily stuff.

So, I will try an occasional silent show and concentrate on adding items, sharing, and following as much as I can. I will continue to post my ads and send comments trying to get people to check out my closet.

My next silent show will be focused on certain brands that I hope will appeal to shoppers: ZARA, Abercrombie and Fitch, Fashion Nova, Express, and more.

This faux leather top by ZARA is in perfect condition.  Originally $40.  My starting price in the closet is $35 but in the show, I will start at $25.

I paid $6 which is twice what I would like to pay but it is so good!  If it sells for $25, I will get $20 if the shipping is not discounted.  So, $14 profit is pretty good.

I have too much stuff!  Thrifting to sell on Poshmark  August Sale

My inventory has grown to almost 800 available items.  I ran out of hangars- AGAIN!

I definitely need to sell more.  I probably should do more throughout the day to get more traffic to my closet but I have other stuff to do too.

Honestly, sharing and following is necessary but can get really monotonous.

The irony is that you need to add items to stay fresh and foremost so people do see your closet.  So, I thrift and buy items to add to my closet but apparently I am not selling enough to make room for more.  That leads to two racks and three and one half  closets full of clothes; two shoe holders full of both shoes and bags; six storage containers with jeans, sweaters, beanie babies, swim, and athletic items; one box of tees, and a bunch of home stuff occupying shelves and tops of storage containers!

My August sale is designed to clear out my closet some.  I can't sell at yard sale prices but I can provide some really good and fair deals.

Here's the August deal:

Buy one get two at half price!  Discounted shipping.  30% off single item purchases.  Free gift with $25 purchase.

Please come by and BUY! Bundle your favs today and I will give you a great deal; fast shipping; and a free gift with $25 purchase.

Poshmark is more important than ever!  Great sale finds can ease a worried mind!

I have an issue that has taken full attention lately.  However, distractions from worry are very important when you need to maintain a positive attitude and endure the hurry up and wait forever environment of the health system.

So, I did a little shopping.  Plato's closet had a 50% off sale.  It's a little embarrassing because I thought I was getting 80% off but apparently only one of the 6 racks met the criteria.  Still, I am ok with what I found.

Zara dress.  Cost me $7 which is more than I usually pay but it is Zara. Listed it at $35.  I had likes on the same day I listed it.  Offers are in the works.

Fabletics sports bra.  I paid $3.  It's original price is $65!  That's crazy.  I listed it at $25.  I had likes and made offers on the same day it was listed!

Another Zara dress.  Cost me $7. It has the original tags and list was $50. I listed it at $23,

R and M Richards perfect Mother of the Bride dress!  I bought this at Salvation Army for about $6.  I listed it at $125.  Already had a few likes on it.

All in all, though I have something going on in my personal life, I can still find solace in working on my Poshmark closet from thrifting to listing!

More musings on my Poshmark adventure

Topic   Sometimes I am just not that into it!  It happens.  I share and follow every day.  I do not mind that even though it is a rather mundane activity.  What happens though is i get tired and just cannot keep tapping, clicking, sharing, and following.

Topic:  Taking pictures:  I wish I had more room.  I can take some decent pics.  I am so grateful that the frree version of Photoroom has tools that help me improve the pics I take.  On Photoroom I can remove the background, straighten the items, and save on my pics.  On Google, I can use the lens to research the item and find descriptions of the item that might be better than what I would say.

Yopic:  Research:  It can get tedious or frustrating but I enjoy finding really cool stuff.  One example, I found a bunch of Cat's Meow for really cheap.  I found a few of the items on the actual Cat's meow website and could use their desription to help me write mine.

To be continued because my nest friend, Nipper, beeds me to fix some coffee and have a few cookies.  She likes the cookies!

Musings on my Poshmark adventure

Topic:  Sharing and following:  It is very important for us little guys to share and follow everyday.  I have different ways to go about it.  First, I am in two follow game groups and the lead ladies send out those who are featured each day.  I share the recommended number or more of the items in each one of the featured closets.  Then, I follow all their followers.  This helps to increase the exposure of my closet and to gain more followers.

Topic:  Promoted closet:  I've been tempted to try it but I think it may cost me more than it is worth.  You get charged for the like clicks you get and you may not even sell the item.  So, I'm not venturing forth on that offer.

Topic:  YouTube videos:  Several people are out there doing YouTube videos.  I used to watch them and some were very helpful at first.  Now, I think most are just trying to get clicks so they earn money.  Sometimes It seems they are just talking about anything to be online for an hour to get those clicks that earn them money.  That is not for me!

Topic:  Poshmark stories:  I do add these often.  I do not know if any lead to sales but it's easy to do in Canva and to add to my closet.  I tag 5 items (that's the max) and I do think some people get directed to my closet from these in the feed.

Topic:  Still my fav thing to do:  Thrifting is still my number one fave thing to do.  I love when I get a good deal and find out the item can retail for a whole lot more than I paid.  I have finally taken pictures of all the items I bought at the SPCA thrift store.  I just added 3 pair of Alphalete leggings that retailed for $72 originally.  I listed them at $45.  At the SPCA thift store, I paid $2 each!

I am going to keep at this and continue to improve.  I like cashing in a couple of hundred dollars every so often.  It helps!

Huge Haul Update, Scam to watch for, and sales are good

I completed my 3 weeks job scoring tests.  I'd do it again.   The money was good and will help pay down bills.

Now, back to my Poshmark closet in between Dr. visits, finding a new doctor, and all the blood tests, the mammo with follow-up, and whatever else happens with my health.

I've added a few of the items from my huge haul from the SPCA thrift shop.  I've maintained my sharing and following.  I added the wedding dress and the Prom dress.  Both have a few likes.  I am still very excited to have found so many items at $1 and $2 each.

However, there are two items concerning Poshmark to let you know.

First, watch out for scams.  Recently, I made an offer on an item that someone liked.  Weirdest thing happened. They added a comment to the item saying that the order was complete and for me to come to their page for info on paying and shipping.  I reported it to support immediately!  Never, ever, ever do anything outside the Poshmark system!

Only two days later, I saw that the comment was gone.  I guess Poshmark took action on it.  I did look at the closet associated with the comment and what do you know that person had no listings, no followers, no following....it was a definite scam.

Moral of the story, trust support and if you ever see anything outside the norm, contact them immediately.

Second, I've had more sales.  I've heard that Poshmark has done something to limit the big closet sellers from bulk relisting their closet items.  Not sure but I believe it may help us little guys get more exposure leading to more sales!

I have a sale a day, on average, for the last two weeks.

The thrift adventure continues.

Can you believe how fortunate I have been this week?

I went to the S.P.C.A thrift store 4 times.

They ran a $2 sale every day, a different category each day.

In total, I bought 82 items, from shoes to gowns, for$126.40.

Each item cost me $1.55.  No telling what i will be able to get for them.

One item is a wedding dress that still has the tags and was $650 originally!

I even bought several beanie babies! I can't wait to research them!

I won't need to source for quite some time!!!!!

It's not the lottery but it's a real thrill.

Price of eggs still got you down? Buying clothing secondhand can save you money and help save in many other ways too!

What are the advantages to recycling clothing?

I Googled and here's my paraphrased version of what AI provided:

"Secondhand clothes offer a sustainable, cost-effective, and unique way to shop, reducing waste, saving money, and allowing for unique style choices, while also supporting local businesses and communities."
Environmental Benefits:
  • 1. It extends the lifespan of each item keeping it from ending up in landfills sooner.
  • 2. It lowers your carbon footprint as well as lowering that in the manufacturing industry.
    3. It conserves water, energy and raw materials.
  • 4. It reduces pollution
  • Economic Benefits:
  • 1. It saves you money
    2. It supports my livelihood (a little) and supports local thrift stores or secondhand businesses.
  • Style and Personal Expression:
  • 1. It provides the buyer with an opportunity to find that unique or vintage item that cannot be found in stores today.
  • The "Hunt" is Fun:
    1. It is fun to rummage or scroll through looking for an unexpected bargain
  • Charitable Contributions:
  • 1.  It is a way to contribute to charitable organizarions.

Moral of the story:  Come shop my closet and hunt for that unique item!

Just a few of the items for sale in my closet.  Please come see the rest.

 Poshmark keeps me busy!

I have shared how much Poshmark means to me these days.  It does keep me busy.  I work on it daily.  Sharing and following is my number one task.  Then, if I have taken pictures of an item or items, I had at least one listing because it keeps the closet fresh.  I take pix of any items I have waiting to be prepared for listing.

But, my favorite thing to do is to shop the thrift stores for great items.

Right now, I need to postpone shopping and try to move some items out.  If I cannot sell them, I may have to make the difficult decision to purge and either take to Plato's Closet for a little bit of money or donate back to the thrift stores.

Why am I at this point?  Because I shop more than I sell! And, because I am out of space. I have two full racks and have taken over all or most of three closets!

I also like organizing.  There's plenty to organize and track.  I keep a notebook of all the items I have!

I am still considering a live show but the conditions and space available are definitely not the best.

So, I will continue to do silent shows a few times a week.

I have to sell some things soon or I can't go shopping!

This is not a yard sale!

What else can I do to make sales?  Is a Live show my only option?

Here's what I have been doing- avoiding going all in on Live shows.

I share and follow several times a day.  I list new items all the time.  I have offered great sales.  I have done many silent shows. I post on Instagram.  I write this blog. I make offers regularly.  I update offers on likes and bundles. My prices are very reasonable, very. Probably, too reasonable.

This is not a yard sale!  I need to make a little profit.

Poshmark takes a $2.95 fee from orders under $15 and 20% on anything over.  I have made sales where I make .03!  No lie- only 3 cents!

I know a $5 sale with discounted shipping is a great deal for the buyer but I am not making anything on it. Well, 3 cents!

Let's look at some sales I have made.

1.  I sold a dress for $10.  I feel it was a fair price for a used dress.

10- 2.95 Posh fee - 2.02 shipping discount = 5.03.

2.  I sold a top for $15

15- 3.00 Posh fee - 2.02 shipping discount = 9.98

3.  I sold a top for $20

20- 4 Posh fee- 2.02 shipping discount= 13.98

 4.  I sold a boy's coat for $33

33- 6.60 Posh fee - 7.97 free shipping = 18.43 ( an aside- this coat didn't cost me anything.  It was a gift my grandson outgrew)

Most of the items I sell have come from my closet, my friends items, or thrift stores.

So, items of my own or from friends, cost me nothing and are total profit.  I do share the profit on the friends; items 60/40 because they are gifting them to me and deserve a little something.

Items I get at thrift stores average out to about $3.00 an item.  Sometimes, depending on the item, a little more.

Conclusion- I need to sell more items or get a minimum of $10 an item.

Bundles can bring in more money in one sale but how that averages out per item may tell a different story.

Some bundle examples:

1.  I sold a bundle of 2 dresses for $22.00.

22- 4.40 Posh fee - 2.02 shipping discount = 15.98

2. I sold a bundle of 3 items: dress, jacket, pants for $55.00

55- 11 Posh fee - 2.02 shipping discount = 41.98

So, on these two bundles, I made about $10 an item.  That's not bad.

It seems like some buyers want yard sale prices and do not realize that we sellers pay the Posh fee and the difference in shipping if we offer a discount.

Something I can do to make a little more on my sales is to price the item at least 25% more than what I want to get for the item. Maybe even 50% more.

Maybe I shouldn't have discounted shipping.  However, I feel it is a way to make the purchase more attractive.

As a retireee, I do worry about income and am hoping I can keep making lunch and coffee money on Poshmark!

It does keep me busy and helps stop boredom and depression.  It gives me hope that my life is not worthless every time I make a purchase from a thrift store and list it for sale!

My first big sale! I hope there are more.

A buyer bought a  bundle of 17 items.  Nice stuff too.  I did offer a huge discount but the name of the game is to sell and to make room for more inventory!

Some of the items were for two of my friends.  We have a good agreement.  They give me the items and I get 60% of the net and they get 40%.  When their earnings accumulate to at least $10, I give them their money when I see them.  It's a fun relationship.

I've been doing more of clicking on the blue follows and maybe that is bringing more people to my closet.  I share a lot until my arthritic fingers cannot take any more!

Who knows what tomorrow may bring.  But for today, I feel very good about my closet and Poshmark.  It has provided me with something to do that is fun and a little profitable.

Please come shop my closet and you, too, may receive a huge discount on great stuff.

Update on AI- It can be turned off.  You do not have to use it.

Oh no AI!

First, I am not a fan of Artificial Intelligence.  As a retired teacher, I fear kids will not learn to think for themselves.  They already think all they have to do is ask Google! More cheating!

So, I had an upgrade alert on my app.  When I added another listing, it was very different,  Now, it scans the pic of your item and generates a description.  You still add all the essential info but it does fill in some for you.  Trouble is, it may not be accurate.

It may generate a nice, weill-worded description but it is very generic and trite.  It is important that the title and description say what you want it to say.

Example:  I added a listing for a bodycon sheath dress that was a floral pattern of yellow and orange flowers on a teal background.  I had to type in the title three times so it said what I needed it to say.

Another was a full skirted dress and the AI said it was assymetrical because the pic was off kilter.  It called it cowl necl. It had a shiny bodice and AI said it was sequins!  It is actually polka dot.

So, good rule of thumb, double check before you hit the list button!

It does generate a generic "this will be a nice dress for a wedding or special occasion"  Pretty soon, nothing will be unique and everything will be the same unless we continue to do our own descriptions.

I am going to add a few more listings tonight and see how this new addition to Poshmark goes.  Most likely, I will continue to do my own wording and continue to giggle at the AI descriptions. Sequins! Right! 😏
